TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE

Transitional Justice Series has been established within the scope of international seminars ‘Transitional Justice in the Former Yugoslavia’ propelled jointly by Belgrade Circle and Centre for Cultural Decontamination. Within the Series we will publish books which cover wide spectre of questions about legal, political and moral aspects of overcoming compromised past. In societies going through process of radical change – from repression towards democracy – question of transitional justice cannot be answered by one-shot settlement with crimes committed by previous regime. Transitional justice relies on lasting effects and represents the first normative test for establishment of procedural democracy and rule of law – of basic principles upon which new regimes undoubtedly must distinguish from the old ones: it can teach us what a democratic society should and must not do. We hope that translated and published books will help better understanding of historical, social and political background of unfortunate past impregnated with ‘elements of bygone sufferings’. This Series is dedicated to education of citizens on the territory of the former Yugoslavia who are ready to settle up with their compromised past.
