CIRCULUS

Circulus
series appeared during the period of euphoric renewal of ethnic populism which moved Serbia away from European cultural legacy and world’s spiritual heritage. Burdened with the collapse of republican integration, which has been the symbol of cosmopolitan citizenship through all ages, the Belgrade Circle decided to launch the Circulus series. Aim of the series is to free local intellectual community from forcing on damaged national identity, to point out legal-political potentials of civic culture capable of reawakening the interest for return to European and world community. Within the Series there are translations of books which reactivate theoretical debates related to open, current questions of ‘freedom’, ‘democracy’, ‘community’, ‘solidarity’, and ‘friendship’. It includes works of contemporary authors (most of them translated and published in Serbian language for the first time) who belong to contrasted schools of thought, to different strategies of considering unequal, asymmetric ‘worlds’. These differences make efficient ways of defining intersecting theoretical and political viewpoints possible, which can unpredictably change social conditions for un-discriminatory participation in globalized civil society, cosmopolitan community.
